Girl Geeks
According to The Telegraph, the digital cable channel Sci Fi UK, now claims that the majority (51%) of its viewers are female. I wonder if the numbers are similar on the US side of the pond. This intrigues me because I have long sensed a lag between the growth of female SF fans and the editorial drive to satisfy them. Not that I would ever make essentialist assumptions about what women like to read versus men, but I can't help thinking there's an undertapped market here.Science fiction writers are always complaining about our shrinking readership. Perhaps actively pursuing female readers is the way to go. Studies show that women read more novels than men anyway. Why not to try to poach some of them?Oprah, are you listening?
