Nicaragua just banned all abortions. No exceptions. Not even to save a woman's life.Even recently-elected leftist Presidential candidate, Daniel Ortega, supported the total ban in an apparent attempt to curry favor with the Catholic Church.Silver lining though. Women convicted of having abortions will only be sent to jail for six years. The current president, Enrique Bolanos, wanted thirty. In the U.S. on November 5, 2003, President Bush signed into law the Partial Birth Abortion Act which banned all late term abortions with no exception to preserve the health of the mother. Here is a listing of who voted for this ban (mostly Republicans with some Democrats) and who voted against (mostly Democrats with a few Republicans). In politics, women are chess pieces.
